St Lawrence Gap, Barbados
The royal stands for the awesome rooms but you also have access to everything Sandals Barbados has to offer.
Sandals Royal Barbados is like Sandals Barbados… but better. Yeah, I know, that is hard to understand at first. Well, Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados are actually two different resorts located right next to each other. So, in theory, they both have different websites on the official Sandals website, but, in practice, it is like you are paying for one of them and can use both. You have access to dining options, pools and activities from both resorts and the main perk of Royal Barbados is that it offers better, more modern rooms.
Sandals Royal Barbados launched in 2017 and had new rooms added in 2021. Royal Barbados combines with its sister property to offer an impressive 20 restaurants, over 10 bars and 11 pools, creating one of the biggest and most impressive Sandals you can find. This is often regarded as one of the best and most luxurious Sandals you can find, located on beautiful Barbados, making it an excellent choice for a romantic week.
Royal Barbados has a ton of cool new rooms. Royal Barbados specifically only has Club Sandals rooms and Butler Elite Suites across 22 categories, eliminating the traditional Luxury rooms entirely. You get fancy suites with private swimming pools, soaking tubs and much more, so if a great room is one of your top priorities, you might want to pick Royal Barbados over Barbados.
The resort pioneered several Sandals firsts, including a rooftop bar and pool, a bowling alley and a bar that specializes in over 20 different types of beer. Yes, you can even make a tier list of all the different beer if you wish. These unique amenities help make Sandals Barbados one of the best and most unique resorts you can find, with a contemporary atmosphere that goes above and beyond a traditional Sandals.
Dining is one of the main highlights, with 20 total restaurants spanning Indian, Italian, French, steakhouses and Sandals favorites like Soy Sushi Bar and Kimonos. That is a ton of options to choose from, and you get access to probably the biggest catalog of Sandals restaurants among all resorts.
The beach is probably the main drawback of Royal Barbados. The public Maxwell Beach features rough waters, seaweed from time to time and a lot of beach vendors. Barbados regulations also prohibit motorized water sports on public beaches, limiting your options for water activities. But, hey, you can definitely rent a car and check other beaches or just stick to the pools.
The 11 pools compensate somewhat for the so so beach, offering excellent options including an infinity pool right by the beach. The resort is also just 15 minutes away from the airport, which is a big plus for those who want to enjoy good food as soon as the plane lands.
Sandals Royal Barbados is a great choice for couples that want to see what the brand has to offer and also get access to some special venues you will not see anywhere else. The rooms are modern, the bars are amazing and you have almost infinite dining options to choose from. We highly recommend it.
