Montego Bay, Jamaica
For a more classy and elegant time in Jamaica.
Before we start, nope, this one does not have any relation with Royal Caribbean. It is just as good, though! Sandals Royal Caribbean stands as the third Sandals resort ever opened, launching in 1986. This Jamaica resort is all about peace and good vibes, creating a romantic atmosphere that contrasts sharply with its larger, livelier neighbor Sandals Montego Bay, located just five minutes away.
Being so close to another Sandals resort is one of the main features of Sandals Royal Caribbean. You have access to everything that Montego Bay has to offer which, in practice, means you can enjoy a grand total of 21 restaurants (9 at Royal Caribbean and 12 at Montego Bay), multiple beaches and, more importantly, different atmospheres. While Montego Bay offers a bigger resort where people like to party, Royal Caribbean is quieter and more compact, perfect for you to recharge your batteries and enjoy a romantic time with your partner.
Royal Caribbean’s main feature is its unique split configuration between the mainland and a private island called Sandals Island. This small island is accessible via a wooden deck from the Overwater Villas and has two beaches, including a nude beach. You can also find a few restaurants and a pool there. The private island is a great bonus even if you just want to head there to walk around, since the scenery change means an extra dose of privacy that is always welcome.
Royal Caribbean also has the crown jewels of Sandals accommodations, the Overwater Villas, representing some of the most luxurious options across all Sandals properties. These are ocean set cottages with transparent floors, private infinity pools and tons of luxurious touches. The Overwater Villas also mean that you can completely change the way you experience Royal Caribbean. While standard rooms are some of the most affordable ones you can find across all Sandals, the Overwater Villas are some of the most luxurious and expensive ones. So, whether you are on a budget or looking for ultra luxury, Sandals Royal Caribbean has got you covered.
Sandals Royal Caribbean is also very close to the airport and it should not take you more than 10 to 15 minutes to get to your resort from Sangster International Airport. Royal Caribbean is not as close to the airport as Sandals Montego Bay, but that also means that the airplane noise is not as high.
Dining is also pretty good on site. You do not get a lot of options, but you do get some of the best Sandals restaurants like Bombay, consistently praised as one of Sandals' finest Indian restaurants. Royal Thai and The Jerk Shack also receive excellent reviews.
Sandals Royal Caribbean is a great choice for those looking to visit Jamaica for the first time. If you prefer a quiet setting, this is an excellent spot with a small private island and good dining options. You can also head to Montego Bay early in the morning and enjoy the beach there before coming back. Whatever you decide, you are certainly going to have a great time.
