One of the fastest growing cruise lines in North America.
MSC Cruises is getting bigger and bigger, especially after investing heavily in the North American market with their new mega resorts. MSC actually ranks as the world's third largest cruise line, operating 23 ships with a particularly strong presence in Europe.
Despite being less well known in North America compared to Royal Caribbean and Carnival, MSC is rapidly expanding in the USA, going from just one ship a few years ago to five currently, with MSC World America making waves in 2025. Are they on some kind of world domination plan? Probably not, but it is interesting that they now operate 10 of the world's 35 largest cruise ships, including MSC World America, MSC World Europa and MSC Seascape.
MSC looked at Royal Caribbean and Carnival, stopped and said, “hey, we want to play with that thing you call a mega resort”. Their newer ships are massive juggernauts filled with huge waterparks, 3D theaters, F1 simulators, waterslides and even a partnership with LEGO. MSC’s greatest strength, though, is value. It is not uncommon to pay less than $300 for a four night cruise on some of their older ships, and even ships that are not even five years old should not cost more than $500 for a week long vacation. That is great value, especially for first time cruisers or if you just want a quick weekend at sea with your family and friends.
MSC is huge all over the globe. They operate in Europe, South America, Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean, South Africa and the Canary Islands. Their private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, features heavily in MSC’s Caribbean itineraries. North American departures currently operate from Miami, Port Canaveral, Galveston and New York, giving you access to some of the most popular ports in the United States.
What about food? Well, the pizza receives universal acclaim as some of the best across all cruise lines. Complimentary dining typically rates as average. But if you have access to good free pizza, do you really need anything else in the world?
The MSC Yacht Club transforms your cruise experience into a world of luxury. Available on newer ships, Yacht Club suites start around $3,000 for seven night cruises versus $390 for standard inside cabins. Yes, that is a big difference, but there are some great perks that come with it. You get twenty four hour butler service, a dedicated concierge, exclusive access to specific restaurants, a premium drink package, unlimited Wi -Fi and much more. Seriously, there are so many perks involved that it is better to save them for specialized guides.
MSC might still not be as popular in North America as in Europe, but it remains a great option if you want to save a lot on your next cruise or want a mega resort experience that feels similar to what you find on newer Royal Caribbean ships. There is a ton to do onboard, it is great for families and friends and it does not cost a ton. Oh, and there is good pizza. Now that is the most important aspect.
